11.04.06 | DVR | This Screening is part of event: DVRfest 2006 Welcome back! Day Two of DVRfest 2006 starts with a Randolph Scott western that's really more of a Glenn Ford western. Scott still got top billing but it's pretty clear that Ford is the rising star here and he's pretty good as a good-hearted bad man who comes into town for a bank robbery that went ahead without him. Scott plays the town sheriff. I thought it'd be a good idea to start the night with one of these old-hollywood technicolor westerns. I didn't particularly love this movie but didn't really hate it either. Most of all I just got the sense of watching a saturday afternoon matinee with stampedes and gunfights and sappy romance and saloon brawls and whatnot. Plus I'll see Ford in a movie I remember liking a lot a bit later on tonight. For now though, this is a good hors d'oeuvre. There was a pretty cool shot of a herd of horse all reacting to an explosion at the same time and starting a stampede. Never see that nowadays. |
