04.18.07 | Weird Wednesday | The dangerous world of juvenile delinquency exposed! I could never quite figure out what time period this was supposed to take place in. The black pimp guy was obviously straight outta 76 ("man this guy is dangerous!") but some of the Silks looked really 50s-ish (especially Marble with his greaser haircut, black leather jacket, and mickey mouse t-shirt), but the car they drive is pure 60s. Anyway, I think a large factor in this movie is how awful the lead guy is. They really couldn't have picked a worse actor. I guess they went for him because they needed him to pull off whiney and cowardly as well as mean but... it just doesn't work. Watching him intimidate his gang into submission was like... well, it was like something bad. that made it fun though. It was also fun to hear the kids curse like sailors because they're all delinquenty... and also a few really choice lines like "Don't say anything! Just die... just die silently!." I also loved how the lead guy's always talking about "good times" with his brother, and when he's told that he shouldn't speak ill of the dead, he retorts with "why not? dead people are deaf." great stuff. Really fun movie. |
