06.19.07 | Alamo Downtown | Bava's sci-fi about a planet filled with souls looking for bodies to survive. I rented this when it came out on DVD (because I'd heard QT played it at one of his festivals) and thought it had some really great sci-fi technobabble and costumes and the lighting and set design (which I'd read were very limited and all basically the sae 4 or 5 structures re-arranged and re-lit to look different) but got pretty slow through most of it and wasn't the legendary film AICN had made it out to be. Well, seeing it with a crowd helps a lot. My personal favorite memory of this experience however doesn't belong to the film at all. It was standing in the lobby before-hand and seeing Kier-La come out dressed as one of the astronauts which, if you've seen the film, should immediately bring a smile to your face. Man! how awesome is it that she has a Planet of the Vampires uniform, anyway!? I was rendered speachless and had to scurry into the theater so I didn't look like I was staring too hard and my jaw wasn't too slack. Good movie as well. fun. |
