08.08.07Netflix starting with footage from It Came from Outer Space, this is the story of Klaus Nomi, new age pop/classical singer/alien. I rented this primarily to understand what his deal was. While I can't say that I completely "get it" now, I did learn a lot about him and his whole thing so... mission accomplished. A few moments during the movie, I felt UBER hipster for recognizing clips from Urgh A Music War and TV Party (thanks Kier-La!) so that made me feel good.

I think the most gripping part of the film dealt with Nomi's death from AIDS. He was such an early victim that he was dying just as the news of the syndrome was hitting the media, so it was really heart-wrenching to see all of his close friends afraid to be near him at the end because no one knew what the hell it was. Makes me want to watch And the Band Played On again.
