08.15.09 | Netflix | Huh. I was definitely more a fan of the book than this film, but I'm pretty sure it was a pretty faithful adaptation. The problem is that the humor and tone of the book translate much sadder to me when I sit and watch it pass before my eyes. Vic Mancini is somehow much more pitiful to see than to read. The stone house scene is a great example of that... something that made so much sense on paper doesn't play AT ALL in the movie (and hence was cut but thankfully included in the deleted scenes since my first reaction after watching the movie was "where's the stoning scene!? That was like the climax of the movie!"). Oh well, still love the book. The movie doesn't quite come together. |
