| 11.07.05 | Netflix | rented this in anticipation of AFS screening Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance tomorrow and Oldboy next week. This was very different from what I expected but still pretty good. I think I'd probably get a lot more out of it on a second viewing but not because there's a twist or anything like that. It actually reminded me a lot of the Travolta movie Basic that came out a few years ago. I've always been a little curious in just how the North/South Korean DMZ works so seeing the location was interesting for me, and I also think it's cool because they don't have the benefit of history to rely on. The people who made this have no clue what North Korean soldiers are like or any of that... it'd be like telling the story of Berlin when the wall was still up, so I think it gets extra points for that... pretty cool movie. |
